Steve Morris Pet Portraits
I consider myself a `Self-taught` Natural artist, a person with a flair for drawing what he sees.
Since my early years at school `Art` has always held a fascination for me in every form and it`s taken many years for me to discover the style and medium that I use today.
For many years landscapes were my favourite subject but at the turn of the century, a friend asked me to paint a portrait of their dog, which I did, and since then it’s been my passion.
I now specialise in photorealistic portraits, and with some one-one tuition from a well-known wildlife Artist in the use of pastels, I can now offer a guaranteed personal service that gives my clients a `TRUE` likeness and a memory they can look at any time of day to help keep-alive or rekindle the love/bond between the two of them.
My portraits have now become internationally known and collected with commissions from as far as the USA, Tokyo, and Australia as well as all over the UK.
My work is my passion and I consider myself `VERY lucky` to (Not only) be doing what I do for a living in today’s market but also to live in beautiful Derbyshire surrounded by some wonderful countryside.
Heres How I work
I use a selection of Both `Soft` pastels and `Pencil` pastels to help me achieve the effect I need when creating photo-realistic portraits.
`Derwent Pastels` are my preferred choice in both but I do use others occasionally such as `Jackson`s Handmade` soft pastels, `Daler Rowney Hard pastels and `Inscribe` soft pastels.
My choice of paper is a `Velour` paper very similar to a fine velvet but which gives all of my portraits that extra-special `LIVING` touch!
When I start a commission, I begin with the eyes, the soul is captured in their eyes and `along with the reflections` it gives their own unique touch to each and every portrait I paint. Next, I work outwards to the muzzle and follow-on from there whilst always aware of all the quirky little flaws and twists of their coats depending on what animal I’m painting.
Once I’ve done the eye`s, I always send a progress shot to the client and `Every time` they come back to me and say how much they can already see their pet in them. I`ll send a second progress shot once the head and neck is laid down and a final clearance shot once it`s completed….I say completed, but I use that term very lightly, as ( until I’ve framed it ) I’ll always pass by and notice a little touch here or a little lick there is needed for me to feel completely satisfied with it.
My satisfaction is your guarantee.
